Heywood

HEYWOOD is a mill town 7.4 miles north of Manchester originally a part of Lancashire, but it now forms part of the county of Greater Manchester.

Heywood was home to perhaps the most pivotal man in the history of British politics, Peter Heywood. Peter Heywood is reputed to have been the man that wrestled the torch from Guy Fawkes hand, as he attempted to light the fuse in the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Had he not done so, then King James I would have been killed with all of parliament.
